Washi samples are popular in stationery swaps because they are colorful, useful, and flat when prepared well. The goal is to wrap tape around a smooth card so the recipient can peel it off later.
Best backing cards
- Plastic playing cards or laminated cards for easy peeling.
- Glossy packaging trimmed into a rectangle.
- Cardstock covered with clear tape before wrapping samples.
How much to send
A few wraps per design is usually enough. Too much tape creates thickness and can bend the card. Keep the card smaller than the envelope and avoid raised clips or heavy tabs.
Label clearly
If you know the brand or theme, write it on the card. If you do not, label by color or mood: floral, grid, gold, neutral, bookish, holiday, or bright.
Mailing check
Slide the card into the envelope and run your hand across it. If one edge catches or the card forms a stiff ridge, move it inside a folded note or use a larger envelope.
